First a self-taught rock guitarist, Fabien Cali moved quite late to musical studies. At 19 he entered the Reims Conservatory before being admitted in 2007 to the Conservatoire National Superior of Music and Dance in Paris. He will earn 7 prizes (Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugue, Improvisation generative, Orchestration, Polyphony Renaissance, Post-tonal writing).Working with composers such as Thierry Escaich, Alexandros Markeas, Laurent Petitgirard, Yan Maresz or Anthony Girard, he simultaneously obtained a Master of Research in Musicology and Jazz Analysis at the University of Paris4 - La Sorbonne.
Winner of the Tarrazi Fund, the Meyer Foundation and the Société Générale Musical Patronage, he received various commissions for the concert of Radio France, the Colonne orchestra, the Champagne General Council, the ARIAM Île-de-France as well as international soloists such as Marielle Nordmann, Alexis Demailly, the Trio Polycordes or Bastien Baumet.
He also worked for the cinema with the composition of the original orchestral music of Guillaume Vincent's feature film "Land of the Bears" featuring Marion Cotillard. His score will be rewarded with a Jerry Goldsmith Award. He is also regularly involved with French télévisions programs.
His music is interpreted and recorded in France and abroad in places such as Maison de la Radio, AIR Studios in London, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées or the Maison de l'Orchestre National d'Île-de-France.
He is currently associate composer with the Paris Brass Band and his work ‘’LIFE !’’ earn the ‘’Best New Composition Award’’ at Brass in Concert 2017.
Fabien Cali is a laureate composer of the Banque Populaire Musical Patronage and also received the Roux & Tronchet Foundations Composition Prize of the Academy des Beaux-Arts – Institut de France.
